I MOTHER EARTH

A NOTE TO THE IMEnation

hi·a·tus - n. a break or interruption in the continuity of a work, series, action, etc.

Well, there it is! Like it was any big secret! Yes we are indeed back albeit in a somewhat unconventional and modified way.  Probably not exactly what you were thinking but then again... Here's the skinny:

The past 8 years have been really good to all of us.  We've learned a lot about ourselves, grown as musicians, and best of all are back together as friends.  It feels like it wasn't all that long ago that we played that last show in Barrie.  It was a magical night and a really good way to go out... sorry about that by the way, we just needed a break.  You see, the business had beaten the best out of us, and really put a strain on the IME concept, and more importantly, our friendship.  We really had no intention or master plan to ever do this again, but somehow things aligned and we really felt compelled to reconnect.  No drama, no emotion about it... one minute we didn't exist, the next we're together again making music and talking about playing live together.

theSHOW

For now, the show is a one off.  We had initially planned on just writing some music and feeling it out, having some fun reconnecting, etc.  It didn't take long until the discussion led to playing live together again.  We initially shied away from the idea of a 'reunion' in the classic sense, as they usually seem thrown together solely to make some quick cash, and nothing to do with being a band.  We decided that we would definitely entertain ending this silly 'hiatus' thing only if we had new music to go with it.  If you can't write and record together and barely stand each other, why would you even think about 'reuniting'?  For us, these elements all go hand in hand, and have allowed the continuation of IME.

While the show has indeed got us all on edge, even a little nervous, it's something we've really missed and have been dying to do.  Of course, other things had to align even to entertain the thought, but IME first and foremost have always been about playing live and this show has the potential to be something special.  We've decided to just play the one show for now, and if our fans want us to, we'll do more.  The idea of going back to the west coast or even back out to Newfoundland is awesome to think about, but first things first...

theMUSIC

We've been writing a ton, but with no intention of releasing a traditional album.  There just doesn't seem to be a point in doing that anymore and I'm not sure why some bands continue to do so.  We now have this weird freedom to write and record without a timetable or in any particular style for that matter, so why not have some fun?  We have no desire to 'aim' for anything as we move along... we don't need a single and we don't need to edit ourselves in any way.  In doing so, maybe an awesome single might come of it, or perhaps some 12-minute pretentious epic.  Who knows?  One thing we can guarantee though, is that whatever we do, it will be uniquely IME.

So for now, we are wrapping up a couple of songs that we like, one of which we'll just give to you if you come to the show and then make available to fans across the country, but we're still not sure exactly how to get the next one to you.  We'll figure this out as we move along.  Rest assured though, if you support us, and help us spread the word, we'll just keep releasing more.  That's a pretty simple arrangement we think.

theMOVINGBEYONDALLOFTHIS

Well, to tell you the truth.... we don't really know!  As mentioned previously, if this attempt at coming together and doing all of this is a success, we'll really have to sit down and figure it out.  In a perfect world we release some music, you love it and support it at radio, we play a kick ass show and regroup to figure out how to do more shows, and make more music for you.  This doesn't have to stop.  It's as simple as that.

theOPENMOUTHblog

Jag also has a new blog that you can find here and will fill you in on a lot of unknown things about IME’s past, present and future.  It seems a lot of people have misspoken on our behalf throughout our career, and now is your chance to actually hear things firsthand.  What do you want to know?  The blog will also involve all members of IME and hopefully some other friends in the industry.  It will touch on a ton of subjects outside of the band and give you some much needed info and facts about the music industry.  Get involved, ask anything, keep it civil and let’s have some fun with it.

We would like to open the lines of communication once again with the IMEnation to help us build and grow the new concept.  We'll keep everybody informed as to any new things added to the site that we need your input on!
